You’ve Completed the Ranger Program – Now What?

The Guiding journey never ends! Did you know that you can enjoy more Guiding fun after you have completed the Ranger program? When you register as a Bridging Member, you can continue your Guiding adventures in a whole new way.

We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you better understand what comes next after Rangers. If you have any additional questions about Guiding opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador, please contact nl-youth@girlguides.ca.

Bridging Members FAQs

What is a Bridging Member?

A Bridging Member is a youth member who has completed the Ranger program, but not yet reached the age of majority in their province/territory (19 in Newfoundland and Labrador). Depending on your birthday, Bridging Members may be 17 or 18.

How do I register to become a Bridging Member?

If you have finished Rangers but not yet 19, send the A5.P Registration form to screening@girlguides.ca, and let them know you would like to become a Bridging Member for the upcoming Guiding year. You can also phone 1-877-564-6188 for information.

Do I have to pay a registration fee to become a Bridging Member?

No! We want you to stay in the program, so Newfoundland and Labrador council pays the membership fee for Bridging Members.

When do I register to become a Bridging Member?

You can register as soon as the Guiding year ends or as soon as you finish your Ranger program.

When can I become an adult member?

In the month following your 19th birthday, you will be contacted (via the email associated with your iMIS profile) to complete a screening to become an adult member.

Do I need a police record check to be a bridging member?

No. A Bridging Member is still considered a youth member and is therefore not required to have a police record check.

Can I be a Guider or Junior Leader while I am a Bridging Member?

Absolutely! While you cannot be a Guider until you are 19, you are encouraged to register with a unit as part of the leader team.

Can I register as a Link Member and a Bridging Member?

No. The Link program for young women aged 18 to 30, or 19-30, in provinces where the age of majority is 19. Once you turn 19, you can complete the adult screening and join a Link unit.

Why should you become a Bridging Member?

Here are a few reasons why this is a great next step:

  • Membership in the largest organization promoting opportunities for girls and women in Canada;
  • Access to scholarships, travel opportunities and trainings;
  • A smooth transition to Adult Membership (Guider) when you turn 19;
  • Communication –Guidepost, and event emails – so you can stay up to date;
  • Volunteer opportunities with units, committees, or councils;
  • Fantastic skills to add to your resume, such as leadership, organization, curriculum development, working with youth, and much more!

I’m 19 and no longer a Bridging Member. What’s next?

We would love for you to continue on and become an Adult Member to mentor youth. There are many different routes you can take as a volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada. Whether you choose to be a Guider with a unit, a Link Member, or a camp volunteer, there is something for everyone. You can also join a Council in your district, area, provincially, or nationally.
